Taking steps towards a more sustainable future through responsible manufacturing, recycling, and greener business operations.

At Todd Research, we recognise the importance of protecting the environment and reducing our impact on the planet. As a UK manufacturer of security screening solutions, we are committed to making more sustainable choices across our business and working towards our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

Sustainability is an important part of our long-term vision, and we understand that meaningful change requires ongoing commitment, investment, and improvements to the way we operate.

While our journey is still developing, we have already introduced several initiatives designed to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and minimise our environmental impact.

Moving Towards Electric Vehicles

As part of our commitment to reducing emissions associated with business transport, we have installed an electric vehicle charging point at our premises.

This investment supports our gradual transition towards electric company vehicles, helping us move away from traditional petrol and diesel vehicles and towards more sustainable transport options.

By introducing the infrastructure now, we are taking practical steps to support a greener company fleet in the years ahead.

Reducing Waste Through Recycling

Recycling is another important part of our sustainability efforts.

We actively encourage recycling throughout our business, helping to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and promote more responsible use of resources.

As a manufacturing business, we recognise the importance of managing materials responsibly and identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary waste wherever possible.

Responsible Decommissioning of X-Ray Equipment

At Todd Research, our responsibility extends beyond the manufacture and supply of security screening equipment.

When X-ray machines reach the end of their operational life, we support responsible decommissioning, including the recycling of their metal components.

By recovering recyclable materials from decommissioned equipment, we aim to reduce waste and support the reuse of valuable resources.

This approach forms part of our wider commitment to responsible equipment lifecycle management and more sustainable manufacturing practices.

Smarter International Travel Planning

With customers and partners around the world, international travel is an important part of our business. However, we recognise the environmental impact associated with overseas travel and are taking steps to make our scheduling more efficient.

Where possible, we group overseas appointments, customer visits and business activities within the same geographical region. This allows our team to complete multiple commitments during a single trip rather than arranging separate journeys.

In addition, our remote diagnostics capabilities allow our technical team to identify and troubleshoot certain equipment issues without the need for an engineer to attend on-site. This helps reduce unnecessary travel, minimise downtime and ensure customers continue to receive efficient technical support, wherever they are located.

Through smarter scheduling and the use of remote support technology, we aim to reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the high standards of service and support our international customers expect.

Sustainable Packaging and Reusable Wooden Crates

At Todd Research, we are committed to reducing packaging waste and making more sustainable choices throughout our operations.

Our TR15 Cabinet X-ray Scanners are securely packaged in wooden crates that comply with ISPM 15 international shipping standards. Each crate carries an IPPC certification mark, which includes:

  • IPPC: International Plant Protection Convention.
  • GB: Certified in Great Britain.
  • FC0241: Approved treatment provider’s registration code.
  • HT: Heat-treated timber to eliminate harmful pests and insects.

Rather than using these crates just once, we arrange for their return wherever possible, allowing them to be reused indefinitely for future deliveries.

By reusing our wooden packaging, we reduce waste, minimise the need for new materials and support more sustainable shipping practices.

This is another practical step towards Todd Research’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

Flexible Working and Reducing Travel Emissions

We recognise the importance of reducing our environmental impact while supporting a healthy work-life balance for our employees. We offer flexible working arrangements, allowing staff to work from home where their roles permit.

By reducing the need for daily commuting, we can help lower vehicle emissions, reduce fuel consumption and contribute towards our wider goal

Our Journey Towards 2045

Achieving carbon neutrality is a long-term ambition, and we recognise that there is more work to be done.

Our current initiatives represent the beginning of a wider journey towards reducing our environmental impact. As our business continues to grow, we will look for further opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and introduce more sustainable practices across our operations.

Our goal is clear: to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 while continuing to deliver the quality, innovation, and reliability that Todd Research has been known for since 1950.

We believe that by making responsible decisions today, we can help build a more sustainable future for our business, our customers, and the generations to come.
